BAAL 2016 postgraduate highlights
The Richard Pemberton best PG paper prize winner: Sally Zacharias. Title: ‘Knowledge About Language from a Cognitive Linguistics Perspective: What content teachers might want to know’.
Best Poster Prize Winner: Kazutake Kita. Title: A Historical Keyword Analysis into Applied Linguistics: A Response to the Special Issue.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all the EC members who assisted with grading and vetting the selected papers.
The PG forum was held at BAAL 2016 under the theme ‘Applied Linguistics and Linguistic Ethnography: Exploring Sociolinguistic Data’. The forum was organised by Elvis Yevudey, former Postgraduate Development & Liaison Coordinator and currently EC Ordinary Member. The forum was engaging and interactive. Thank you to the following guest speakers who contributed to the success of the forum by sharing their experiences: Fiona Copland (University of Stirling, UK), Wine Tesseur (University of Reading, UK) and Jai Mackenzie (Aston University, UK).
The forum was followed by the PG event dubbed “Research Speeding Dating”, which had active participation from PGs and early career researchers. In this event, participants discussed an aspects of their research for 1-2 minutes with a partner before switching to talk about another aspect of their research with a different partner.
If you have any suggestions for the theme of the 2017 Postgraduate Forum, please contact the new Postgraduate Development & Liaison Coordinator, Owen Minns, at the following email address: owen.minns@pgr.anglia.ac.uk
