“Exploring vocabulary development and use from multiple perspectives”

Annual Conference of the BAAL Vocabulary Studies SIG 2019

 Hosted by the Department of Languages, Information, and Communications at the Manchester Metropolitan University

Dates: Thursday 25^th April, 2019, 12.30-18.00 and Friday 26^th April, 2019, 09.00-17.00

 Location: Geoffrey Manton Building, Rosamond Street West, M15 6EB, Manchester

• Professor Emerita Birgit Henriksen, University of Copenhagen
• Associate Professor Kathy Conklin, University of Nottingham

The aim of this year’s annual Vocabulary Studies SIG Conference is to bring together vocabulary researchers who approach the study of vocabulary from multiple perspectives.  The conference will be an excellent opportunity to foster fruitful discussions about the multifaceted nature of vocabulary and to engage with present and future vocabulary research avenues.

We welcome abstracts for paper and poster presentations on any topic related to the teaching, learning, processing, use, and assessment of vocabulary (e.g. corpus linguistic approaches to the study of vocabulary; classroom-based research on the learning and teaching of vocabulary; formulaic language; psycholinguistic studies on the processing of vocabulary; vocabulary assessment, etc.). We particularly welcome abstracts based on empirical data.  

 We welcome proposals for: a) Paper presentations (20 minutes + 10 minutes for questions) and b) and poster proposals. A title and a 300-word abstract should be submitted to baalvocabsig@hotmail.com by the 15^th of February 2019. Please specify if your submission is for a poster or paper presentation and do not add tables or diagrams in the abstract submission.

Deadline for receipt of abstracts: 15^th February 2019

Results communicated: 25^th February 2019

Registration starts: 26^th February 2019

Registration deadline: 26^th March 2019

 Conference fees (including refreshments and lunch):

• The above price covers attendance on both days, Friday lunch, and teas/coffees both days.
• There will also be an optional conference dinner on Thursday the 25^th April.
