Salary  £29705 to £35469 on Grade 7

Applications are invited for two full-time posts in the School of Linguistics and English Language at Bangor University. The successful candidates will join a dynamic, supportive, and friendly School with a strategy of building on its strength in the areas of bilingualism/multilingualism and cognitive linguistics, and its emphasis on empirical research methodologies. Applicants will have a sustained or emerging track record in academic publishing and research activity supported by a PhD in a relevant field, and will be expected to contribute to the growth of a strong research culture in the School. There will be opportunities to engage with initiatives linked to the ESRC Centre for Research on Bilingualism in Theory and Practice, join existing interdisciplinary research groups and use their new state of the art research lab and equipment.

We are particularly interested in appointing candidates with a track record in the area of Phonetics/Phonology, Sociolinguistics and/or anthropological linguistics. An interest in variation and/or interfaces (within and/or beyond the discipline of linguistics) would be an advantage.  Knowledge of Welsh is desirable.

The posts are available from 1 September 2010 until 30 June 2011 in first instance, with ambition to extend for a further two years at least.

Director of Academic Development, Middle East

Job Description
EF Education First is accepting applications for a professional linguist and English language teaching specialist to be part of shaping the future of language learning. As Director of Academic Development, Middle East, you will have a creative and challenging leadership role in the design and implementation of language learning programs across the region. You will oversee the instructional design process, create specialized curricula, use new media and innovative approaches for teacher training and development, contribute to the development of educational publications and lead the implementation of EF programs. Using your fluent Arabic language skills, you will also represent EF in the region in high level strategy discussions and other external representation activities. You will jointly report to the head of academic research and development and to the relevant EF product president and serve as an academic liaison internally and externally. The starting location for the position will be Dubai, UAE.

Requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD or EdD in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language Education, or related field. They must have a proven record of successful English language teaching for a wide range of ages and interests and experience in product development for the English language teaching (ELT) industry. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate native or near native spoken and written Arabic fluency and enthusiasm for working in educational contexts throughout the Arabic-speaking world. In addition, they should have wide international work and travel experience, familiarity with the international education market, a demonstrated public speaking record, and a passion for the opportunities that new media and technology provide for effective learning, teaching, and assessment. Candidates who will be in possession of the doctorate within the next 6 months will be considered.

Tribal Education is embarking on a range of projects, both nationally and internationally, to provide contextualised English language support and solutions across a range of delivery platforms. In particular, English for Special Purposes for international markets, including the HE sector, ministries and multinational employers in the Middle East, China and the European Union.

We are building our pool of expert associates with relevant skills, qualifications and experience to work with us on the development and delivery of forthcoming English language projects.

We are looking for high-calibre professionals who demonstrate at least one or more of the following criteria:

  • Minimum qualifications RSA/Dip TEFL/TESOL and/or MA TESOL or equivalent, and substantial experience in EFL/ESP and/ or ESOL design, delivery and management
  • PhD in English language teaching/ESOL/EFL  
  • Experience of international work – particularly, but not exclusively, in the Middle East and China, and English for Special Purposes
  • Authoring and content design skills in English language, EFL and English for Special Purposes, including a proven track record in publications and/ or online content  
  • Technological aptitude and experience of designing and delivering remote/ e-learning and blended English language solutions
  • Experience of leading large-scale English language teaching projects and/or schools and teaching standards improvement; EFL/ESOL teacher training and curriculum design
Salary
Day rates for associates vary depending on qualifications and experience.
